If you live in or near the Austin, Texas area, we want to alert you to a great new conference that is going to be held there on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Gateway Community Church from 9:00 A.M. to 3:15 P.M..
The name of the conference is Illuminate, and it is the brain child of Kenny Conley and his team at Gateway. I love that Kenny thinks outside the box when it comes to children’s ministry, and this conference is no difference. According to the article Kenny wrote about the conference yesterday:
“…haven’t you ever come home from a national conference and though, “I wish my volunteers could have heard that speaker?” As a result of asking those questions, we developed the idea for Illuminate. Although I and a few members of my team might hit a national conference, our biggest focus is to bring the national conference to our volunteers.”
Kenny, faced with budget cuts, decided to do exactly that. He booked a nationally known speaker to come talk to his volunteers. A couple of weeks ago, they decided to expand the lineup a little with other well known children’s ministers and open it up to the general public for a nominal fee.
I love Kenny’s heart for his volunteers and other volunteers. It is exactly what we’re about here at Kidmin1124.com. What a great way this conference will be to fuel the passion that so many children’s ministry volunteers have. Like so many volunteers, finding the time and funds to attend a national conference can be a challenge. If you are within driving distance of Austin, I would encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
The lineup of speakers includes:
- Craig Jutila (EmpoweringKids.net)
- Michael Chanley (CMConnect.org and Imakidmin.com)
- Sam Luce (SamLuce.com)
- Jonathan Cliff (JonathanCliff.com)
While I don’t know any of these men personally, I do know there work online and have interacted with some of them through their blogs and other networking sites. Having said that, I have no doubt that this conference will be worth your time and money. Oh, yes, money. I almost forgot, here’s the best news of all. The total cost for the conference including:
- Two general sessions with Craig Jutila
- Two breakout sessions geared to volunteer specific needs
- Lunch from Chipotle
…is only $25 per person. If you are a children’s pastor, this is a conference you can afford to take your entire team to. If you are a volunteer and your children’s pastor isn’t taking you, this is a conference you can afford on your own. It is sure to be an investment you won’t soon regret! My only regret is that I won’t be able to attend, but the drive from Ohio is a bit long.
Kenny’s plan is apparently to blog about the conference all week, so make sure to check out ChildrensMinistryOnline.com for more information.
