Archives For Resources

After almost two years on the air, we will be airing the final Kidmin1124 Radio Show from 9:00 to 10:00 PM EST tomorrow night, Thursday October 4, 2012.  We are bringing back as many past panelists as we can find to talk about the radio show and chat children’s ministry one last time.

We will all miss the radio show and the chance it afforded us to talk children’s ministry and share those conversations with you.  I hope you will join us by tuning in tomorrow night here.

Christmas on a Budget

Wendy Douglas —  November 9, 2011

That’s right…I said it…Christmas! I know it’s only November, but in Children’s Ministry we start thinking months in advance about the holidays and Christmas is no different. I wanted to share with you some free resources that are available for your ministry.

imageIn May of 2010, a valuable new resource was made available to the children’s ministry community called, “What Matters Now in Children’s Ministry?”  Designed to spark conversations and get people thinking, the free book did just that.  The original team has gotten back together and recently released the second installment in the series entitled:

What Matters Now In Children’s Ministry – Early Childhood Edition

imageIt has become a bit of a tradition here on Kidmin1124 that we create pages for you to track all the latest tweets from major children’s ministry conferences. We missed D6 a couple of weeks ago, but we’re please to announce that we have created pages for two conferences both going on right now (or starting soon).  Make sure to check out the pages for:

Kidmin Conference 2011

and

Catalyst 2011

Our own Wendy Douglas is at the Kidmin Conference and Barbara Graves is attending the Catalyst Conference.  If you’re at either, make sure to look them up – you won’t regret it!

In case you misplace this post, you can always click on the links at the top of Kidmin1124. Happy tweet watching!

imageA while back, Matt Guevara, Amy Dolan and Henry Zonio formulated an idea.  It was an idea that had leaders in the field of children’s ministry come together and share the one word which they felt mattered the most in children’s ministry.  These one words, coupled with a brief explanation of each, became the free e-book What Matters Now in Children’s Ministry.

It is a book which served as a spark to ignite many a conversation.  I covered the book extensively on Dad in the Middle offering my thoughts on many of the authors’ submissions.

imageI’ve always had a great deal of respect for Kenny Conley.  He is an invaluable voice in the world of children’s ministry, and his blog (Children’s Ministry Online) was one of the first ones I discovered when I delved into the blogging world.  It has been a valuable resource ever since.  Though I have never met him person, I have learned a lot from Kenny over the last several years.

That’s why I was so excited last year when Kenny announced that he and his team from Gateway church were putting on the first ever Illuminate conference for his volunteers and other children’s ministry volunteers in the Austin, TX area.  Kenny’s heart for, and actions towards, equipping volunteers by bringing top notched speakers and information to his church really resonated with our goal here on Kidmin1124.  My only regret was that I did not live close enough to Austin to attend myself.

imageHere at Kidmin1124, we love Jenny Funderburke.  Outside of our writers here (we have to say that) and Brother Jim Wideman, I think I have learned more about volunteers from Jenny than anyone else.  It is not the sole focus of her blog, but she does tend to write about them quite a bit.  In fact, we were lucky enough here at Kidmin1124 to talk her into writing a guest post for our blog titled When You’re Short on Volunteers. Rest assured, if she were a volunteer or bi-vocational, we would have her as part of our team here on Kidmin1124 Smile

Lucky for us, we can just head over to her blog, Kidmin Thoughts, to enjoy her insights and wisdom.  Over the last couple of weeks, Jenny has been publishing a series called The People in Our World in which she is listing the various types of volunteers.  I don’t know when the series will be done (I hope never), but here is what she’s published so far:
